In January 2008, Gordon took on his toughest challenge yet as he pledged to teach Britain to cook in the first ever nationwide cookery master-class, daring viewers to cook along with him as he prepared a delicious three course meal in just one hour, LIVE.

Armed with top tips and a range of on-line master-class VTs in which Gordon demonstrates everything from the correct way to sharpen a knife, select the perfect steak to making the ultimate salad dressing, viewers nationwide added their names to the 1000s of eager cooks on C4's website and prepared for the big night.

In the weeks leading up to the show a list of simple ingredients appeared in listing magazines, newspapers and online. All viewers had to do was buy the food, move a television set into the kitchen, invite some friends over and get ready to cookalong with Gordon. With a live link to ten families around the country Gordon offered advice to amateur chefs including celebrity foodie Janet Street Porter whilst cooking for his own group of friends and family in the kitchen.
